Do I need to be super fit?
No. Outdoor coaching can be adapted to suit your level of fitness.
Where will we go on our journey?
This will depend on your level of fitness and whether you want to stay close to home or go further afield. There are various locations around Scotland that I have used before, or I can devise a journey around your local area or your nearest wild place. Generally, we will only venture onto terrain that you are comfortable on so that your mental energies are more focussed on thinking and processing and chatting to me, rather than staying upright.
Does the weather matter?
Not to me. However if you are not used to being out in the wind and rain then it might be an issue that affects location, timing and duration. On the other hand, if you are well equipped for wintery weather then there is no reason why we can't go ahead with our plans regardless. The only proviso I would make is that if it is very windy (>50mph) then talking can be difficult away from sheltered places. As with terrain, we will choose conditions that allow us to focus our energies on the task in hand, not merely coping with the situations we find ourselves in.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes. Working one to one can be quite intensive over a whole day, so you might prefer to bring a friend. They can either sit in on your coaching sessions or be excluded for those bits. Alternatively, if they are interested in the coaching aspect for themselves, that too can be arranged, thereby reducing the cost for you.
Can I bring my partner?
Yes, as above. You can be coached together as a pair, or singly; either is possible.
If I come on a 3 day journey, what kind of food and accommodation will it be?
We can organise almost anything from a tent or bothy, where you bring your own sleeping bags, to a five star hotel. Availability may depend on location - the wilder a journey you are looking for the fewer options will be available.
What will it cost me?
The basic cost of coaching can be found on the Products page of the website. However there may be a few extras depending primarily on travel to locations and on activities chosen. If you come on a 3 day journey, type of accommodation will also affect the final cost. However if cost is a concern and you want to gain some of the benefits at a lower cost, how about getting a group of 4 people together. We can follow the same journey, with similar interactions, however they will be interpersed with times for personal reflection and group chat. The costs of materials, accommodation and food will obviously be per person but the coaching cost can be split across everyone. Contact me to get an idea of costs to suit you.
Do we have to go walking?
No. However walking and talking is a great way to converse without the uncomfortable pressure of making eye contact - think how often you have done it with your friends in the past. A walking journey is the easiest to organise but it would also be possible to travel by bike or canoe. Alternatively if you don't fancy being outdoors at all, we can take the sedentary option and stay inside, or simply sit outside, making occasional metaphoric references to the natural environment.
