If you haven't seen it already, check out John Bishop's Britain, currently running on BBC1 on Saturday evenings - very funny observations on British life. The one that particularly caught my eye was Episode 4, his take on work, 'Britain's least favourite pastime'. He manages to cover a lot of ground in the space of half an hour - as well as his own stories detailing his various pre-comedy careers (such as being the Director of Sales and Marketing in a Pharmaceutical Company - not something that impressed his kids, especially when their friend Billy's dad drove a digger!), he has clips from people, normal and famous, with their take on work. Whether it was their first job (like Mel C in a chip shop), or their worst job (Tara Palmer Tomkinson measuring men's inside legs), there are interview stories and sackings, office parties and career advice.

'Neg! Neg! Neg!'
The best bit for me though, was him recounting a tale of answering a job advert, joining a firm selling 'a concept, a way of life'. All good so far. Then the boss comes in one day worried that there is a lot of negative energy in the room and instructs them to all turn and throw their negative energy out the window. This is the point (after two weeks) when he realises that maybe this job was not for him! It made me wonder if there are still workplaces like this in Britain today.

Whilst it made me laugh out loud, I did start to wonder what the worst jobs are that people have ever done. As you look back, what do you rate as your worst? What made you give it up or are you maybe still in it. I'd love to hear your stories.

If you haven't seen it already, it is available on the BBC iplayer site until Saturday but it has also been uploaded in three chunks to YouTube:
Part 1     First jobs, Careers Advice, Answering Job ads
Part 2     Worst jobs, Interviews, Bosses
Part 3     Sickies, Sackings, Office Parties

Enjoy!
