I've been thinking about getting some videos made introducing the ideas of outdoor life coaching so the first of an occasional series is down below. Its nothing fancy and I fear its a bit reminiscent of the Fast Show's 'Hi, I'm Ed Winchester'.

But it begs the question, is it good communication? I was recently running a teaching session on the very topic and realised how badly I get my message across (or not) at times; mainly because people delighted in telling me they didn't understand.

However, I wonder how well any of us actually communicates. Regardless of how much feedback we draw out, there is often a question mark over what the recipient understood from the message that I sent. Even the words that I used are sometimes not heard, mistranslated (even amongst 'English' speakers) or misunderstood. No matter how much thought and effort I put into preparation, there are times when the message doesn't get through. Are you ever the same?

Some questions we should maybe consider:
  - Is my body language and tone of voice consistent with the words I am using?
  - What feedback have I received that I can use to gauge what was received - should I ask for more?
  - What are the consequences of miscomprehension?
  - How much do I care about the consequences and how much effort am I willing to expend to avoid them?

So is the video good communication? I'd love your feedback as to what messages you got from watching it. Let me know in the comments option here or email me nick@squarepegscoaching.com
